The play “Poo kanav” is inspired by A Flowering Tree by A. K. Ramunajam who had based this story on his English translation of a Kannada folk tale.

“Poo kanav” centres on Poornima who along with her sister Pournami and her parents, make her livelihood by selling flowers. . But unfortunately this honest family is unable to match up to the pressures of the flower industry and gradually become impoverished. The two sisters talk about their misfortune to their friend -the Chembaka tree. The tree in turn gives them a secret mantra that can turn anyone who recites it into a tree that bears exotic flowers and also the mantra to return to human form…
